A Uniformed Career at Nigeria's Borders and Airports
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) controls who enters and leaves the country. Its officers issue passports, check travellers at airports and land borders, and patrol border communities. It is a paramilitary service, so staff wear uniform, hold ranks, and go through basic training before posting.
NIS does not run its own open recruitment. Hiring is handled by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), which recruits for four services through one portal. The last exercise, for 2024/2025, has closed, so anyone applying now should wait for the next official announcement.
Where You Start Depends on Your Certificate
New officers join at one of three ranks, decided by their highest qualification.

Salary by Rank (Officer Cadre)
Officers are paid on the Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS). Promotion moves you up a CONPASS level, with a clear pay rise each time.

Eligibility Criteria
Paramilitary recruitment adds physical and age requirements to the usual document checks.
- Nigerian citizen by birth with a valid NIN
- At least five O'Level credits, including English and Mathematics
- Age limits apply — check the official advert, as they differ by rank
- Minimum height and chest measurements, set in the advert, for men and women
- Medically and physically fit, with no criminal record
- NYSC discharge or exemption certificate for graduates
Selection Process
CDCFIB runs every stage, and shortlisted candidates are announced on its portal.

- Physical screening: height, chest, and fitness tests
- Credential verification and medical examination
- Final list, then basic training before posting
