Guarding Trade at Ports, Airports, and Borders
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) collects import and export duties, fights smuggling, and checks goods moving through seaports, airports, and land borders. It is one of the country's paramilitary services and one of its biggest revenue earners.
Unlike Immigration, Customs recruits through its own official portal, and only when an exercise is announced. Officers are posted across the country, including busy commands such as Apapa, Tin Can, and the land borders.

Customs and Immigration are both paid on CONPASS, so officers at the same level earn similar basic pay. Customs officers also receive allowances for housing, transport, uniform, and hazard duty.

Eligibility Criteria
- Nigerian citizen with a valid NIN
- At least five O'Level credits, including English and Mathematics
- Age limits apply — check the official advert
- Minimum height and fitness standards for men and women
- No criminal record, and medically fit
- NYSC discharge or exemption certificate for graduates
Selection Process
- Online application on the Customs recruitment portal when it opens
- Computer-based test for shortlisted candidates
- Physical and credential screening at a designated centre
- Medical examination
- Basic training at a Customs training college, then posting
